Dan Brown Anyone?
I finally finished my fourth Dan Brown read - Deception Point.
Like the other three, this one too is a surefire page turner and an out and out thriller. If you like his style of writing, you will know that this is just like the other three, full of chills and thrills, exotic locations, scientific overload, a dash of relationship drama, and a narration that travels at breakneck speed.
The order in which I like his books?
1) Angels and Demons
2) The Da Vinci Code
3) Digital Fortress
4) Deception Point
Although his narration is a page turner and all his chapters end like the Kyunki Saans Bhi Kabhi Bahu thi episodes, there are instances of scientific background that can easily be skimmed over. Also, there are places where you just want to move on and not read the details so that you can jump on to the juicy stuff. Another common trait in all his books is the numerous fights and escapes that the heroes and heroines of his books have! The hero and the heroine seem to get into trouble everytime and whether they are being hunted by the bulkiest of man in a desolate land or they are left to be frozen on a rock in the Arctic circle, they manage to escape alive. The climax, is always a shower of firearms or something magnanimous and leaves you in awe! Much like our typical hindi movie climaxes. Lots of drama and action!
What is most interesting though, is that his books are a kind of satire, I feel! There are so many open implications about discontent with religion and government and the books truly make you think if what he wrote is really true? Even though common sense tells you that it is fiction, the books urge you to check some things out and raise your curiosity! Besides, there is so much information in there that I did not know about and was like oh! I didnt know that!
I had picked up Digital Fortress on my way to India, especially since everyone I knew was raving about Da Vinci Code. So I figured before jumping on to the biggest, I start with something not so big! Loved it and went on to read the other three. I cant wait for a fifth one if it is coming out and also the movie!
A story in blogsville that is very much Dan Brown style is our very own Deepak Jeswal’s Independence Day! It could definitely be your prelude to break-neck thrilling DB style.
Whether it be the brain-whacking codes in Digital Fortress, the perils of Vatican City, the glaciers and ice storms of the Arctic Circle, or the signs and symbols of Leonardo Da Vinci, if you enjoy fast paced, intelligent fiction with some satire and drama mixed in, Dan Brown is your man.
Yesss…. me first…!!!
Yaa… U talking about Dan Brown reminds me, Ive got to get back on track with some reading and writing… long time since spending some time for myself except sorting out the usual resettlement problems…
Me second!
I have only read the first 2 on your list of likes… and I enjoyed them both.
And I agree with you totally that DJ is our very own Desi Dan Brown!
Tell me… is it worth reading the rest two? I was planning to get them on a long flight one day. But I guess… not this flight to India, as i have better company!!
have only read Da Vinci Code….actually not much of a DB fan..
I agree with each and every word you wrote here Kaush…. except the list… I liked Da Vinci better than Angels and Demons…. Did you notice how all his books have lead women are super sexy and have space high IQs?? There is a certain DB style in all the books…. though 4 books is too early tocall it a characterised style….. am waiting for his fifth.
So far, have read only da vinci code, interesting book
Oh, 5th is coming..and I am still in the 1st
hmm.. even i’ve read jus Da Vinci code.. and liked it. have bought Angels n Demons.. but haven’t yet read.. let me try.

TC,
Divs
Hey Kaush!! sounds like perfect stuff for the december break..have to try it out now!
just checked..all the books from library checked out
I havent read Deception Point or Digital Fortress… but The Da Vinci Code was my first encounter with Dan Brown’s writings and i not at all repent at this. His books are intelligent fiction and as you rightly said they do point out certain things which have gone unnoticed and make you stop in your path to actually see the details. I actually went on to see the pictures of The Last Supper on the net to see whether there really was a hand there or whatever description n points were mentioned in the book were they really there. The word used by you is perfect indeed they are satires highlighting issues that had been or are being suppressed. Love his writings without a doubt.
Oh btw i guess u missed it out…DJ has been rechristened as the Dan Brown of blogsville. His story ‘ID’ was simply great and yes i won a prize in it sooo im all praise for it. But on a serious note its something like the novels of Dan Brown…unputdownable. I still havent got my hard copy of ID. DJ u reading this :-P…guess i shall call him n tell him this
I loved Da Vinci better than Angles and Demons although the basic story structure of both the books was exactly the same. The climax of Angles and Demons was a little too dramatic and unreal for me. Also, Angels and Demons got famous after Da Vinci became the Bestseller of all times.
I am a big fan of Da Vinci’s work in general and so that book just quenched my thirst for more of his work.
Next Dan Brown’s book is called “K-Factor” and it is based on the fact that he has found documents which prove that Kashmir is actually part of USA as India had sold it to US in 1947. I am so waiting for it.
Also, I feel Dan Brown tends to use his books to fictionilize conspiracy theories that he find interesting and which have been proved. Good way to tell non-fiction by fictionalizing it.
i started da vinci code & preempted it.. too less time to complete it. may b some other day. usualy i prefer reading books while travelling. now that kaush recommends, i shud try
I have yet to read Deception Point. I read Digital Fortress and found it a bit predictable. Though I loved DVC and simply adored Angels and Demons, which to me is also my best for his.
Thanks for my mention…thnks to Nupur and Anz and others for reading and praising my ID… (Anz , u NEED TO CALL in the first place ok!!!!!!!!!!!)
BTW, i m looking forward to reading Jeffrey Archer’s False Impression. Just bought it. Am desperately looking for reading it … u know JA is my abs abs all time favorite
i too want to read dan brown’s novels..par meri library mein its always issued…poor me..

Ayyo! New template aa gayi aur mujhe pata bhi nahin! :O) Gosh… high time I improved my blogging habits…
BTW when it comes to books I usually prefer to keep mum! (Na bolya ma nav gun remember? :p) May be if someone asks me about Deception Point, I’d copy n paste the text from you post.
(No royalty issues eh? :-?)
hi kaush, i really hate you for all those caffine pics on the new template, i am trying to reduce the coffee intake and haven’t had more than one mug in the morning, rght now having a headache, dying for some caffine and when I come here what do I see, coffee in all its galore now hu shu karo control nahi hota.
about dan brown, I think we were reading the book at the same time coz even I just finished it. now I am done with all the four, the thrid author whose every book has been read by now. But I liked Da vinci code better than angels and demons, rest remains the same.
nayi post… nayi template… badiya hai
:)
btw, i have read only da vinci code by dan brown. Loved it.
And, after reading your post, looks like I need to read the other 3 as well
BTW, HNY in advance
There was a research about the probability of any book becomin a best seller….and accordin to it ‘the Da Vinci code ‘ had only 33% chances of being a success !!!! Beautiful template.
Do try reading my new post as I spend a lot of time on it and you make a special appearance on the same.
Dan Brown — fabulous!! Digital Fortress is definitely one of my favorite books of allll time (should be too, it has to do with my job field
).
I started reading Da Vinci Code beginning of this year as I was traveling, but I never finished it.
I just never got into it like I did with Digital Fortress.
Even Neeraj finished Digital Fortress but wasn’t able to finish Da Vinci Code.
wish you too a very happy new year that is full of joy, laughter and satisfaction. May God always help you realize your dreams…
Kaush,
Wishing you a very Happy New Year
ITNL –yes, actually I too had not read anything for a while…but then the holidays came by and there was a store discount at the university bookstore…so got the perfect opportunity!
Nupur Actually, the first two are the best ones….I had actually read digital fortress first so liked it! Although I must say that Deception Point is quite skippable if you have already read his best two! DP is really not his best work!
Mehak- I can see that..actually DB has quite a few critics following him..
Anks — Yep…all women heroes, the actual heroes get bashed up a million times but miraculously survive..and yea true..you cant call it “his style” mayve just yet..but hes definitely got a distinctive narration!
JS– yep the fifth one is coming..he has been writing it for over a year now..lets see..and dont worry..maybe you can skip the other three in between and go straight to the fourth one h
Prasad — do let me know which one you like better then. Its interesting to know….a lot of people like Angels and Demons better, ofcourse the majority like Da Vinci better..lets see
Divya You can skip Deception Point if you have read the other three….unless you happen to just have it! And yes the movie is on DaVinci Code..Tom Hanks plays Robert Langdon! Should be interesting!
Mehul– hehe nice! so did you read them? did you like em? feedback?
Anz yea, and you know its really interesting..I did look around here a little..there a little after reading his books..but we are never going to know for sure how true these controversies are..or maybe we will..thats what I liked most about AandD and DaVinci..about DF and DP, they attack parts of the government and the snooping tactics of the US gov. and they might as well be true!
Also, Dj ke saath jhagda sort out ho gaya I am assuming? hehe gosh! I am soo late in replying to these!
Ricky — True, AandD was famous bcoz of DaVinci Code..however..I thought its narration pace was alittle too slow!- atleast for me it was. And is it really called the K-factor???? I heard its again set in Europe..something more regarding DaVinci..??? am not sure..but I sure cannot wait to know for sure waht its about…and if its about kashmir…i see a bestselling controversy in India regarding that!
Chandu — do read it and then let us know how you like it?? okay’?
Deepak– you know DJ, you could probably skip DP…it is quite predictable tooo…only thing..its got some pretty interesting stuff regarding meteorites and is set mostly in the artic circle..but its NOT a must read!
And you are always welcome for the mention! Count me in when it comes to DJ fans ;);)
Also, yep I know JA is your favouritest writer..but you know even after hearing so much from you and everyboyd else…I havent gotten my hands on one of his books! I need to get one!!!! maybe it could be my birthday present from you ;);)
Pinks tsk tsk..do try to get your hands on one theek hai? and let us know how you liked it?
Vicky — haha..yep..totally jobless….waise yes yes new years resolutions toh banaaye hai….same old same old….:D will put em up sometime:)
Vidhi — yes yes….am back
waise..do stop by ANYTIME for any coffee
Fundooo–sheesh! i too need to revise my blogging habits! hehe..and well..do try to get your hands on Davinci and AandD..and aapni vaat toh ekdum sachi che..na bolya maa nav gun toh hoyaj!
Priyanginiben..aa main shu kari didhu? hahhaa…coffee naa tarasya naa coffeee bataavi? bhool thai gai ben..but anyways..you can have you alter ego come hear and drool at the coffeee..:D:D
Manpreet– thanks jee for liking the template! waise you should definitely read Angels and Demons if not the other two..and thanks for the wishes..a very happy new year to you too
Rusty—ooooh interesting!!! after all..it was just a probability..:D
Poonam — Digital Fortress was the first Dan Brown book i read too..waise yep..its quite interesting..the codes and all! I wouldnt have half the brains..tum log yeh computer kaa kaam kaise kar lete ho..phew! and jaisi poonam waise neeraj..now you two need to read hte Davinci cod eomsetime too

ITNL thanks so much for the wishes! A very very Happy New year and best wishes to you too
Inspring — hey long time no see..wish you a very happy new year as well
Wowwwww ….. what a great template. I soo want to do Barrisstaaa right now !!! :-).
Of course .. me too for Dan Brown. :-). I love all his books and approximately in the same order. Just that I liked Deception Point better than Digital Fortress.
Also, I think you should add a word of advice to new readers. As tempting as it may seem, it is better to space out the reading of DB novels.
He is a great story teller … but if you try and read all his books back to back … then the structural similarity takes away some of the funn.
He is sooooo mah man, Kaushi! Happy new year to you! Relieved you postponed the exam until june? And back to studying? Good luck
-RS
Hi there,
Happy New Year. I picked up dan Brown much later than the rest of the world did. read Da Vinci Code and then Angels and Demons. My only grouse was that after reading The DaVinci Code, you kinda already know whats gonna happen in Angels and Demons. His writing sot of follows the same format and tho it is a novelty at first, I dont think it is sustainable and gets boring rather quickly. New read The Broker by John Grisham, like dan Brown, I have picked up John Grisham after the whole world has already read all his works
Sahi hai Ashish, I forgot to add that note and I agree! they do seem kinda the same and need to spaced out…I didnt…i just wanted to read more and more…then the stories became predictable:)
RS he so is! and yes postponed..and am back to studying as always!
hey Sugzter! Welcome back! Long time…true…i think because of DaVinciCodes fame..people sorta read it first and then wanted to read it more. However, even though his work becomes predictable then..like Ashish said..if readers spaced them out they would enjoy it much more…and yep..am also a fan of John Grisham…read a lot of his work
