Current tune: Sau dard hai….sau raah pe (Jaanemannn)

Heard the two new Anu Malik albums Jaan-e-Mann and Umrao Jaan. Loved the music of Jaanemann. All the songs are very very different from the current fare that is going around. My personal favorite of the album is “sau dard”. Anu Malik seems to have done a decent job but the million buck question is if he borrrowed these tunes from somewhere far far away, or sometime ages ago! Gulzar’s lyrics is Aone as usual and Sonu Nigam in most of the song is excellent as usual - again best in my personal fav - sau dard.

And for some reason I dont seem to be listening intently to any songs of Umrao Jaan except “Salaam”. Actually I havent heard any songs completely except Salaam. I am just stuck right there. Saw the previews! I am not an ardent fan of Aishwarya’s but I have to say that she look stunning in the promos. I don’t like her and I certainly don’t like her attitude, giggles, and immature comments on international shows. But she definitely is a stunner in Umrao Jaan. Abhishek Bachchan is the other stunner in the movie. Cannot wait to watch it.

Until then I am looking forward to watching Don and still awaiting the music of Dhoom 2! Life has been very hectic so there has not been much free time, but I spend whatever I get of it listening to music or catching up on movies I missed. One such movie I watched while I was on a “catching up” session was Lage Raho Munnabhai - but that is another post. Another day.

Naye site pe mubarak….hope u keep this one up, running and active throughout…

BTW, i m quite regular in updating…that is as much as i can…

Havent heard the songs of both the films. didn’t get time to dow…err , buy them… Frankly, i didnt like Aish in the promos - she looked too artificial…prob, coz i cant get Rekha out of my mind in the original role. BTW, i found Rekha much prettier in the ‘mujra’ outfit in YATRA promos much better, even at this age , than Aish!

BTW, I heard the songs of JAANEMAN, and saw the film as well. The film is just ho-hum. Extremely long - who makes three hours films these days!!!!!!! The songs, equally average. Liked ‘jaane ke jaane na’ though. Not ‘Sau dard’ that ‘eeeeeeee’ at the end of mukhda is pretty irritating :-|

Heard Umrao Jaan songs - found ‘Salaam’ really good. As also ‘Pahle pahal’ and ‘Mai na mil sakoon’. In all, the music is pretty good - saarangi, sitar, tabla …instruments that were forgotten are all used!

Heard ‘Vivah’ numbers - what bunkum!!!! Only ‘Mujhe haq hai’ is worth it…and to a small extent ‘milan abhi aadha adhura hai’…but the lyrics..LOL… imagine techno age lovers like Shahid and Amrita singing words like ‘divya vaatavaran’ and ‘milan mein sahyog sabka hai’ ha ha ha ha ha..Sooraj Barjatya should retire!

Gulzar and Anu Malik have created magic in the songs, and Sau Dard is my favourite too! Nice, matching name of the site :-)

About Ash being stunner, unfortunately Umarao was no stunner, according to the character in the book. She was a great poet and courtesean :-)

Manish - Gulzar always continues to surprise listeners, evolves with time, and yet retains the quality. Even in a line like - ‘tooti phooti shaayari mein, likh diya hai diary mein, last farmaish ho tum, aakhri khwaaish ho tum’ makes such perfect sense, despite the obvious inanity. And then in ‘Humko maaloom hai’ he writes ‘Mom maani nahi, dad naraz hue’, simple, and to the point!

My fav from this film continues to be ‘Jaane ke jaane na’ … and after seeing the film, ‘Kabool kar le’, though ya, ‘Sau dard’is slowly growing on me now, i wish that ‘eeeeee’ was not there though!
