A Certain Phone Conversation
A cacophonous ringtone echoes in the black Corolla, muffled sounds follow, someone is desperately searching for the darn cellphone whilst keeping an eye on the road. Finally…
Girl—Hello?
The Other Line – Kem che beta, how are you?
Girl—Oh papa? I am fine, surprised you called at this time. (What time is it?)
Father— Yes, what are you doing, beta?
Daughter –Hmm, driving to work. (If I don’t, they will fire me.)
Father – So how old are you?
Daughter – (perplexed at the question) Old enough
Father – How much money do you make?
Daughter –Not enough
Father – How many minutes have you used on your cell phone?
Daughter –More than enough (THAT’s what this is about!)
Father – Got your cell phone bill in the mail today.
Daughter –Silence
Father – Do you know how much it is?
Daughter – Yes, papa.
Father – Does your mother need to know about it?
Daughter –No, papa.
Father – Will it change next month, will you be talking less?
Daughter –Yes, papa.
Father – Good. When are you coming home?
Daughter – Next week, papa.
Father – Ok, make sure you don’t talk as much or else your mother finds out. Bye.
Daughter – *phew..sigh of relief* Yes, love you too, papa.
P.S:: All characters in the above conversation are fictitious (the writer wants it that way). Any resemblance to a person or persons living or dead is purely coincidental and a figment of the writers imagination, so to speak.
